Swiss & German EMBE Students visit R&P
This week some 50 students from the Executive MBE (Engineering) program of the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland visited Shanghai, as part of an exchange program with Jiaotong University, one of Shanghai’s top business universities. On 10 May 2011 they received an introduction from Maarten Roos on the legal and practical challenges to doing business in China.
Maarten started with some questions of the executives, to understand their primary interests. He then focused on two main topics: how to avoid and resolve disputes in China, and how to protect and enforce intellectual property rights. As most participants had either a technical or a financial background, Maarten focused intensively on case studies and his practical experiences in this field, which led to some interesting discussions.
Maarten regularly provides lectures on the above and other topics of Chinese law and practice. He is also the author of Chinese Commercial Law: A Practical Guide (Kluwer Law, 2010), one of the most popular recent books dealing with legal challenges for foreign companies in China, and he has contributed to numerous other publications.
